A deeper dive into some of the popular holiday toys of the 1980s!

If you tuned into my most recent episode, we discussed the most popular holiday toys in the 1980s spanning the years 1980-1989.  If you haven't yet listened to that episode, you can find it here:  https://www.popcultureretrospective.com/pop-culture-retrospective-episode-58-the-top-holiday-toys-of-the-1980s/

Coincidentally, I have done a few shows on some of those toys!  So here are some links to those episodes!

In 1985, the top holiday toy was Teddy Ruxpin. He was created by a former Disney Imagineer named Ken Forsee.  You can learn all about him on a recent episode entitled "Popular Cartoon & Toy Bears of the 1980s."  Here is a link to the show: Teddy Ruxpin and other toy bears of the 1980s episode

In 1986, the top selling holiday toy was Nintendo.  You can find more information about the story of Nintendo on an early episode of the Pop Culture Retrospective Podcast:  The History of Nintendo And in that episode, we briefly touch on the cult classic film, the Wizard!

Finally, one of my favorite toys and animated series of the 1980s was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  Created by two artists, the TMNT would go on to being one of the most successful toy lines of all time!  They were the top selling holiday toy of 1988.  You can learn the backstory behind these characters on this episode of the Pop Culture Retrospective Podcast:  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

I hope you enjoy taking a look back at some of these episodes!  Also, one helpful feature of my new website is the ability to search for show topics on the episode section of my website.  Type up a subject or keywords into the search box and perhaps I have already covered a pop culture topic from the past you may be interested in.  Here's a link to that portion of my website: Episodes
